Leadership Development

Built to LeadDeveloping courageous leaders.

Built to Lead is Phi Gamma Delta's customizable, multi-level development experience. Beginning on day one of affiliation and extending throughout the entire undergraduate experience, BTL builds the skills necessary to become a Courageous Leader.

Growth & Recruitment

The Growth System centers on values-based recruitment. Every brother is trained to represent the chapter and identify men who align with FIJI's values — building the chapter intentionally, year-round.

Certified Recruiter Training (CRT)

Goal: 100% chapter completion

CRT is the cornerstone of the FIJI Growth System. Every brother becomes a certified recruiter through training developed in partnership with Phired Up, the leading organization in fraternity/sorority recruitment education. CRT teaches values-based, 365-day recruitment strategies that move away from traditional "rush week" thinking.

365-Day Recruitment Model

Year-round, ongoing effort

FIJI's Growth System operates on a 365-day model — recruitment isn't limited to a week, it's a year-round mindset. Brothers identify quality men through everyday interactions, campus involvement, and intentional relationship-building. The chapter sets measurable growth goals and assigns a Project Manager to keep the process on track.

Key Principles
Names lists, conversation guides, values-aligned bid process
Goal Setting
Set a target goal date and assign ownership for results

Why it matters: Chapters that complete CRT at higher rates consistently recruit larger, more values-aligned new member classes. The Growth System is the foundation for a healthy, thriving chapter.

Foundation of Courage

The Foundation of Courage is the new member journey — a structured onboarding sequence from the moment a man accepts his bid through initiation and his first weeks as a brother. Each program has specific timing requirements tied to initiation.

CommunityEdu

CommunityEdu is Phi Gamma Delta's required online wellness education program for all new members, delivered in two parts. The curriculum covers alcohol awareness, hazing prevention, sexual misconduct prevention, bystander intervention, mental health, and healthy decision-making. Every new member must complete both parts to fulfill Foundation of Courage requirements and maintain good standing.

Part 1 Deadline
Due 10 days after joining the chapter
Part 2 Availability
Unlocks 30 days after completing Part 1

Prior to Initiation

Brotherhood Welcome

The first official welcome into the brotherhood. Sets the tone for the entire FIJI experience and introduces new members to the chapter's culture and expectations.

Within 2–3 days of bid acceptance

Invitation Ceremony

A formal ceremony welcoming the new member into the chapter. Can be combined with the Brotherhood Welcome or Initiation. Marks the official beginning of affiliation.

No later than 4 days after bid acceptance

Initiation

The ritual of initiation — the most sacred tradition in Phi Gamma Delta. Under the New Model, initiation happens within days of accepting a bid, not weeks or months later.

Within 4–6 weeks after initiation

Business of the Fraternity

Workshop covering chapter operations, bylaws, financial obligations, and how the fraternity runs day-to-day. One of three required post-initiation workshops.

Within 4–6 weeks after initiation

History of the Fraternity

Workshop exploring FIJI's founding, national history, traditions, and place in the Greek community. Builds pride and connection to the broader Fraternity.

Within 4–6 weeks after initiation

Legacy of the Fraternity

Workshop focused on what it means to build a lasting legacy as a Fiji. Explores the values, traditions, and impact brothers carry beyond college.

10–14 days after initiation

Mentor–Mentee Event

New initiates are paired with an experienced brother for mentorship. This event kicks off the relationship that provides guidance throughout the undergraduate experience.

Due 10 days after joining

CommunityEdu Part 1

The first module of community education programming. Covers foundational topics on creating a safe, inclusive, and respectful chapter environment.

Available 30 days after Part 1

CommunityEdu Part 2

The second module builds on Part 1, going deeper into bystander intervention, healthy relationships, and community responsibility.

New Model approach: Under FIJI's New Model, initiation happens within days of bid acceptance — not after weeks of pledging. The Foundation of Courage replaces traditional pledging with an immediate, values-driven onboarding experience.

Courageous Leadership

Annual programs hosted chapter-wide at key moments during the academic year. These are facilitated events — some assigned by IHQ with a dedicated facilitator — that develop the entire brotherhood together.

Ritual Education Retreat

Annual 1–2 weeks before first initiation

A chapter-wide retreat focused on deepening every brother's understanding and appreciation of FIJI's ritual. Hosted before the first initiation of the year so brothers are fully prepared to welcome new members with the gravity and meaning the ceremony deserves.

When
1–2 weeks before the first initiation of the academic year
Focus
Ritual meaning, ceremony preparation, brotherhood unity

Election Prep

Annual 6–8 weeks before elections

Prepares the chapter for officer elections. Brothers learn about each executive role, what effective leadership looks like, and how to run a fair and transparent election process. Ensures the chapter elects leaders who are prepared, not just popular.

When
6–8 weeks before chapter elections
Focus
Officer roles, leadership expectations, election process

Health & Safety Program

Annual Scheduled with IHQ facilitator

An assigned program with a facilitator provided by International Headquarters (IHQ). Topics rotate and are tailored to current needs — covering substance abuse prevention, mental health awareness, hazing prevention, sexual misconduct prevention, and bystander intervention. Hosted at a time that works for both the chapter and the facilitator.

Excellent on Purpose

Annual 1–2 weeks before end of year

The capstone event for returning brothers. A structured reflection and goal-setting session where brothers assess their growth over the year, celebrate accomplishments, and set intentions for the next level of their BTL journey. Includes contemplation (personal reflection) and consultation (mentored coaching conversation).

Not for College Days Alone

These programs are hosted in the last term of membership for graduating seniors. They mark the transition from undergraduate brother to graduate brother and alumni — ensuring no Fiji leaves without a proper send-off and preparation for what comes next.

A reflective program that takes graduating seniors back to the values and experiences that shaped their time in FIJI. Reconnects brothers with the Fraternity's founding principles as they prepare to carry them forward.

Graduate Brother Welcome

The chapter formally welcomes graduating seniors into the graduate brotherhood. Covers what it means to be an alumnus, how to stay connected, and the expectations and opportunities of graduate membership.

Legacy Letter

2–3 weeks before last meeting

Each graduating senior writes a legacy letter to the chapter — reflecting on their experience, sharing wisdom, and leaving a lasting message for the brothers who follow. Read at the final chapter meeting of the term.
