Service is woven into everything we do. As proud partners of the Alzheimer's Association Utah Chapter, our brothers lead with purpose, compassion, and impact.
Purple for a Purpose
Since our founding, Phi Gamma Delta has been driven by the principle of service. At the University of Utah, we channel that commitment into actionable change — and our primary philanthropic partner is the Alzheimer's Association Utah Chapter. Leadership means showing up when it matters most, and few causes demand that urgency more than the fight against Alzheimer's disease.
Utah Chapter — fighting Alzheimer's for over 30 years
The Alzheimer's Association Utah Chapter has been on the front lines of the fight against Alzheimer's and related dementias for more than three decades. Their mission: eliminate Alzheimer's through the advancement of research, provide and enhance care and support for all affected, and reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.
Alzheimer's is the most common cause of dementia — a progressive disease with no current cure. It is not a normal part of aging, and it devastates families across every community in Utah and beyond.

Unpaid caregivers in Utah
Hours of unpaid care annually
Every year our chapter joins the world's largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer's care, support, and research. We form teams, fundraise, and walk together as brothers across Salt Lake County.
Throughout the year we organize campus-wide fundraising events with all proceeds directed to the Utah Chapter — from philanthropy mixers to awareness weeks that rally the university community.
We host educational events on campus about Alzheimer's, its warning signs, and the resources available through the Utah Chapter. Every student should understand how this disease impacts our communities.
Brothers volunteer directly with the Utah Chapter throughout the semester — supporting local events, assisting with community outreach, and connecting affected families with resources and support groups.
The Walk is more than a walk — it's a movement. Participants carry flowers representing their connection to the disease: blue for someone living with Alzheimer's, purple for someone who has lost a loved one, yellow for a caregiver, and orange for those who support the cause. Our chapter walks as a team every year, and we invite the entire university community to join us.
Join Our Walk TeamNationally, an estimated 7.4 million Americans age 65 and older are living with Alzheimer's dementia. More than 12 million family members and unpaid caregivers provide billions of hours of care each year. Healthcare and long-term care costs for people living with dementia are projected to reach $409 billion in 2026 alone.
In Utah, over 38,300 people live with the disease, supported by 115,000 caregivers who provide 137 million hours of unpaid care annually. These aren't just statistics — they're our neighbors, our families, our professors, and our friends. That's why this cause is personal to us.
The Alzheimer's Association provides critical services including 24/7 helpline support, caregiver training, in-person and virtual support groups, and advocacy at every level of government. By partnering with their Utah Chapter, our brothers contribute directly to care, support, and the advancement of research toward a cure.
Free support around the clock, staffed by specialists and master's-level clinicians.
